What are diamond polish pads, and what are they used for?

They are abrasive pads with diamonds in the matrix used for mechanically resurfacing natural stone surfaces.

Can I use a diamond polishing pad on any type of natural or engineered stone surface?

The short answer is yes, but the right type and configuration of the diamond pad must be used on the appropriate surface. They are not all the same. If you require assistance determining which pad to use, please contact us.

Are there any precautions I need to take when using diamond polishing pads for granite?

Our Ultra Resin Pads are not recommended for granite. Granite is not a DIY or beginner-friendly material to refinish. Caution must be taken, and it is strongly advised to practice on scrap pieces of stone or have some training/experience before working on granite.

How do I know which one to use?

Typically, the diamond pads will say exactly what they are for when you purchase them online. In general, you would start with a lower-grit polishing pad before moving on to the higher grits. If there is any confusion, you can give us a call. Our Ultra Resin pads are for marble, travertine, and limestone.

Are they suitable for concrete polishing?

If the polishing pad contains concrete diamonds, then yes. Concrete diamonds are very specific, and depending on your equipment, they may need to be used wet or dry. Our Ultra Resin pads are not suitable for concrete.

Can these diamond polishing pads be used for wet and dry polishing?

Diamond polishing pads may sometimes be used wet/dry, but the manufacturer will specify how they should be used. Our Ultra Resin pads are designed specifically for wet polishing.

What polisher would you recommend for these pads? Will a high-speed grinder suffice?

High-speed machines and angle grinders are not recommended for diamond honing. A proper 150-175 RPM floor machine or a variable-speed planetary floor machine should be used. If you need help finding the best tools for stone polishing, please get in touch with us.

Will they give me a high gloss finish?

No, these polishing pads will not produce a glossy finish. A polishing compound should be used after the diamond polishing steps for a final high gloss finish.

The new PYRO™ Pads are a DIP (Diamond Impregnated Pad) style abrasive pad for marble, travertine, and limestone surfaces. There are many pads like this on the market and while these are nothing revolutionary, they certainly are the cream of the crop. Designed with years of experience and customer feedback in mind, the PYRO™ Pads are a solid alternative to the traditional resin pad and compound finish without leaving too much texture. In fact, the PYRO™ Gold Pad has changed the game when it comes to refinishing floors with excessive lippage. Utilizing our exclusive lippage kit, an MTL floor with significant lippage can be refinished with resin diamonds up to 1800 grit. Then processed with the PYRO™ Gold Pad to remove picture framing and blend the finish together prior to polishing with a compound or crystallizer. This achieves 2 major objectives:

It removes and blends picture framing after all the resin diamond refinishing has been completed without introducing any texture. Previous methods of using a lower grit DIP style pad after 220 or 400 grit resins can blend picture framing, but will introduce texture, throwing off the clarity of the finish in the low areas.
It brings the finish of the entire floor up drastically from the 1800 grit, making the final polishing step take significantly less time, reducing the overall labor needed to finish the project.

Are these pads suitable for home use?
